Misspelled eBay Items – How To Create A Good Title

Misspellings Or Bad eBay Keywords Will Result In People Not Being Able To Find You

Creating a title is one of the most important elements when listing on eBay that you must know how to do well.

Choosing the right keywords for your title will help you target people who are already looking for the item you want to list.

If you choose bad keywords or even make a mistake writing them, you are facing a chance to sell an item for a low price and loosing the money.

No one ever discovered the actual structure of what a title should look like, but I will tell you everything I know from my testing.

Don’t Become A Victim Of Misspelled eBay Items

At first, let’s talk about misspelled titles. It happens a lot and can hurt you if you are the eBay seller.

I remember how I was able to buy one of the best headphones called “Sennheiser hd-25” for half of the real price just because the eBay seller who listed this item made a mistake in the title.

I placed a bid and had no idea that the title was misspelled in the first place. I won this auction and was ecstatic because the price was low and the item was new.

I began thinking about why I bought it so cheap. I had never before seen such a low price for this type of headphones.

After I saw the title, everything became clear to me. It was listed as one of the many misspelled eBay items.

I always use different combination when I want to buy something and had never used software before, I search by model number and different variations, different spelling, etc.

I made the payment immediately and had these headphones about 2 weeks later.

They were new in the box with all accessories. I sold these headphones locally and made a profit, just because someone made a crucial mistake.

This example shows how important the keywords you use in the title are.

One free tool I can recommend for grabbing such bargains is TypoTracker. Using it is simple, just type the keywords you are targeting and it will give you all of the misspelled eBay items it finds on eBay. If you are looking to buy something cheap there is no need to do every research by hand, this tool does it automatically.

People think about misspellings as making a mistake in the word, for example if you write Apple it is correct, if you write Aple it is misspelled.

But I want to talk about misspellings from my point of view.

For example if you are selling something and put words L@@k, No Reserve and other words like these, ones that do not make sense, you have to realize that people are not searching for these words at all. I also think that we can refer to these words as misspellings of the eBay listing titles too.

Such words must never be used, ever.

How To Create A Good Title For An eBay Listing

The golden rule is not to use keywords people don’t search for.

Yes, it sounds easy, but let’s start at the beginning. If you want to sell an ‘Apple iPhone 4’ in an eBay auction, you have to create the best title you can.

Remember that the title should start with the most important words first. This means that words that are at the end of the title are less important than in the beginning.

You only have 55 characters available so you have to use them properly.

Let’s get back to the iPhone example and create a good title:

New Apple iPhone 4 Black 32GB Unlcoked Warranty NIB

Now analyze what I have written.

The title begins with the word ‘NEW,’ I don’t use phrases such as ‘Brand New’ because people don’t search for that. It is a good idea to include this word because people can separate you from others as they may be looking for a ‘Used’ one.

After that comes the phrase ‘Apple iPhone 4,’ its color, capacity and other words.

For example, if it is ‘Unlocked’ it is a good idea to mention it, because people search for that word. ‘Warranty’ is not the best keyword but because there are no more high traffic keywords left, I used this one. And at the end ‘NIB,’ which every eBay user knows is ‘New In Box’.

I don’t include words like ‘Free shipping’ because if it is free, eBay will show sign near your picture.

Don’t include such words such as ‘No Reserve,’ ‘Good,’ etc. as these are words that people don’t search for.

If you have no idea what keywords to use, Terapeak can help you with that. If you do your research, it also shows the keywords that have been used the most from completed eBay listings. It is very good because you have a list of keywords that were used from successful auctions.

Remember like I said before – learn only from successful people. Similarly, you can learn from successful eBay listings too.

The title is made up of only the keywords; it can have no meaning at all. It can be just separate keywords with no idea.

If you want to say something to the potential buyer, use a subtitle because it won’t affect the eBay search results.

It is not the same as a book title, an eBay listing title’s purpose is to use the right keywords so that people can find you if they put them in the eBay search box.

A Trick That The Advanced eBay Seller Should Know

At the end, I will give you one trick free.

Go and put Apple iPhone in the eBay search tool, look at the results.

It shows the most relevant auctions to the keywords you entered called the ‘best match’ by default.

Now see that more than half of the listings end in less than 24 hours, and there are users that have no feedback at all who appear on the first page of search results.

As you know ‘best match’ means that eBay considers everything like the title, time, feedback score, DSR rating and other factors.

But you will definitely appear in the first page when your auction is ending in 1, 2 or even 5 hours so this means that ending time is a big factor.

EBay considers the amount of time left in your auction. For example, if your listing is in auction format and you are planning to list it for 7 days because you think you will get a higher price, there is no need to do that. You can list it as a 3 or even 1-day auction and you will get the same or even a better price.

If your auction is listed in a 7 days format, it appears far away from page one. When the time is less than 24 hours, you will be in the first page.

There is no reason to wait so long and loose time; there is no benefit in that for you. I tested is so many times and the results are absolutely the same.

If you list, for example, in a 1-day auction, you will be on the first result page fast since you are targeting the right keywords and your ending time is less than 24 hours, so you will get all the attention and the same or better results than listing in 7 days auction.

This means that ending time plays a huge role, even in the best match results.

You will get better results if your product is not as highly competitive as Apple.

I practice this all the time with video training I have, by listing in the 30 days fixed price format listings and the 7 days auction format with the same price, I stayed on the first page of the eBay results page with auction listings all the time, even with a low feedback score.

I use 7-day listings for my training product auctions just to advertise, because I sell the same product and relisting it in a 1 or 3 days auction is quite expensive for me. Showing on the first page of eBay in the fixed price format is very hard.

In this way, potential buyers see my auction and if they want to buy right now, they can click to see my other listings and find the same item with fixed price.

Or you can say in your listing that the buyer can find the fixed price format by clicking ‘See Other Items.’

Remember eBay likes auctions more than fixed prices, so chances are much higher to be on the first page using it, as I said, even with same price.

Situations are different, so keep that in mind and test what method fits you the best.

I gave some guidelines and you have to find how to use them to get the most benefit from your product. Because sometimes it is better to list in 3 days auction not in a 1-day auction, and to end it early if you see that something goes wrong.

It all depends on the competition, product and what you want to accomplish.

If you want to sell fast, go with 1 or 3 days, there is no need to choose the 7 days format.
